Welcome to the website of the Powys Digital Towns programme

New digital infrastructure for your town

Powys County Council has recently installed new public Wi-Fi systems in the centres of Llanfair Caereinion and Ystradgynlais, and will soon be doing so in Crickhowell, as part of a Powys-wide initiative to support its town centres. The initiative is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns programme, and complements the Wales-wide Smart Towns Wales programme (http://smarttowns.cymru).

Digital Place Plans

Alongside this, Owen Davies Consulting and Cwmpas are working with the towns to help their local businesses and community groups to explore and plan for how to use this new infrastructure to improve their place now and in the future.

Over the past couple of months, we have spoken to town stakeholders to understand how they currently use digital, find out what digital skills they have and do not have but want to learn, and explore their ideas for how digital can improve their place. This information will form the basis of a Digital Placemaking Plan for the town, which will set out the current position, priorities and next steps for the town.

Free digital skills development support

Cwmpas are delivering a targeted programme of digital skills support to local residents, businesses and organisations to give them the skills they need to make the most of new infrastructure and other digital technology, and support them to gain relevant qualifications, as required.
